New Home Construction Process

It is exciting from the time that you decide that you will be building your new house, until you move in, but it can also be daunting. The thought of all of the decisions, costs, and time put into this new project are all stressful. Luckily, one of the best ways to reduce the stress of the new home construction process is to read up on resources so you have an idea of what will need to happen, and so you can prepare for what can go wrong.

NuStar is Utah’s premier new home construction company. We can not only build you a brand new dream home, but also fix or change your current house to make you more comfortable in it by giving it a new life. Here’s a look at the new home construction process, and what you can expect when you work with us at NuStar Construction.

Subheading 1

There are a lot of decisions required to build a home, and perhaps the most important is location. Where you build your home is where your family will settle for decades to come. You can choose to become a part of a new neighborhood development, where you will define and grow the area, you can also buy a plot of land on your own in an established area, which will be harder to find and likely more expensive. Lastly, you can find somewhere less developed and more remote to build your house. These locations will likely be a ways from city center, so keep in mind your new commute before committing to a lot.

Secondly, you must choose the floor-plan of your home. For this, you can either consult an architect to draw plans from scratch, you can choose a typical model home, or you can solicit help to better customize a model home to your family’s wishes.

Now it is time for the details. You need to have your flooring, paint colors, cabinets, and appliances picked out so they can be ordered and ready for when the builder is ready to add them to your home. Waiting months into the process will slow things down.

Let the Building Begin!

Now that you have made all of your decisions, you should be ready to sit back and let the builder take it from here. You should keep in close contact with the builder and make regularly scheduled visits to help curb some of the worries, and make you more and more excited about your new home on every visit. Here are some of the basic steps in the home construction process:

  1. Prepare the lot
  2. Pour foundation and footing
  3. Build Framing
  4. Begin Roof and Exterior
  5. Add utilities
  6. Add drywall and paint
  7. Install flooring
  8. Install Cabinets
  9. Place Appliances

The home building process can take anywhere from three months to a year depending on availability of builders and contractors, and how long it takes you to make all of your decisions. That’s okay though! Rushing through this process instead of taking it slow and really considering every detail is less likely to produce a home that is straight out of your fairy-tale.
